Runner Question...
Okay so here's my predicament..
From Deldrimor War Camp I got a run from a player to Granite Citadel. Agreeing on a price we set off. However, very soon after we began he died and began a chaos of swearing and profanities against me saying my Mo/Me wasn't healing and protecting him enough. I replied saying I paid for a run and was expecting him to be able to run me to the next town. He replied with more profanities and obsceneties until we achieved Spearhead Peak and then to town with a few more deaths and more cussing. I don't really feel he deserved the amount we agreed on. For the beginning part (up to Spearhead Peak), I had to practically follow on his heals to keep him healed and protected while he just kept charging and sprinting. He even had 6 henches with him. I didn't think running was suppose to be this way. What's your decision? Shall I pay or not? I know the general rule is to pay for what you get, but his profanity and swearing along with horrible playing just doesn't seem favorable to myself who was paying for a much more pleasurable run.... I can understand a death or two here or there but his profanity was absolute chaos.. |

Well, you did agree on paying him so I would.
But for the hassle, of having to keep him alive (since runners should be self sufficient in doing the run), I would pay him less. Give him the reasons why, the cussing, the dependency on you to keep him alive. If he gives you grief over this, like continued swearing and harassment through pm's, put him on ignore/report him to Anet. |

Did he say he would require your help before you agreed what you would pay him ?
If you did, then you agreed to pay him that amount. If you didn't, then he isn't providing the service you agreed to pay him for, so I don't see how he deserves any gold. Though it also sounds like you paid up front for a run, which is never a good thing to do unless you trust the runner. |

You should have said "no thanks" then left. I've had my fair share of runners who advertise as "pro" but end up being complete shit. If they die more then twice I leave, I don't pay people who waste my time.

No, you should not pay him. You are exactly right in assuming that he needed to do the effort and you could sit back. The whole reason he gets paid is because he is offering a service which he did not.
I have done quite a few runs and have been run and the general idea which you can assume is that the runner does the work and you pay him. The minute he says you need to heal him just leave. He doesn't know what he's doing. |

If I hire someone to fix my refrigerator, I expect them to have the skills, equipment and tools to do the job. If they show up expecting me to have screwdrivers to use, then they sure won't be staying around nor will they be getting paid - for anything.
Same thing with runners. The whole concept of running is that a character who provides this service can do it without aid from anyone in their party. Your mistake was that you didn't just leave when he/she started the abuse. Don't make another one by paying for a service that clearly wasn't provided. |

that run is hard... for me... i find it way more easier to just fight my way...
and a real runner doesn't need someone healing... just for that i would call him stupid and left... sorry you had to encounter such a person playing... |

Just set your own rules with runner. Herbalizer sets some pretty good ones.
1. If they die more than twice, leave. 2. If they are mean, or rude, leave. 3. If they are using henchies, leave. 4. If they want you to help, leave. I pretty much use that for my basis of a good runner. Of course you can bend the rules once in a while :P. |
